Tufts Cognitive Science Graduate Program

Petition to count a
methods
course as a CogSci elective
The policy for counting 'methods' courses as CogSci electives is as follows:

1. Students can petition to count one ‘methods' course as one of their CogSci electives. This methods course must enable the student to gain competency in a specific Cognitive Science Research Method that allows them to carry out interdisciplinary research.

2. Only 100-level or 200-level courses can count as a Methods course.

3. The student must gain permission from the Instructor to join the course before petitioning to include it as an elective.

4. There is no guarantee that the student's petition will be approved. This decision will be made on a case-by-case basis.

5. No transfers of Methods courses from other Universities are permitted (e.g. a Psychology student who took a programming course prior to beginning at Tufts cannot petition to have this count as a CogSci elective, and a CS student who took a Psychology Experimental Design course before beginning their Tufts coursework cannot petition to have this count as a CogSci elective).
