Nomination for Honorary Degrees
The Board of Trustees of Tufts University seeks nominations from the Tufts community for Honorary Degree candidates. An Honorary Degree is the highest honor Tufts can bestow, and nominees should be consistent with the standard provided by previous recipients.
Guided by the Committee’s charter, nominees should be individuals whose accomplishments reflect Tufts University’s own mission as an institution committed to education, research, scholarship and active citizenship and Tufts’ values and cultural ideals: academic freedom and integrity, inclusive excellence, accountability, access and opportunity, curiosity and creativity, collaboration and interdisciplinarity, a global perspective, sustainability, and wellness.
Whatever a nominee’s field of activity, the individual should have demonstrated contributions at the highest level. Nominees should also be individuals whose character reflects the integrity and personal values that the university expects in members of its community. They should be worthy models for the University’s graduates and inspirations to the Tufts community.
Once nominated, a candidate will be eligible for consideration by the Board. Please note that, while the Board receives many nominations each year, a limited number of Honorary Degrees are awarded annually. Nominees who are not awardees in a specific year will remain on the list for consideration of their candidacy in future years.
